Whether you’re completely new to martial arts or returning after time away, you’ll be welcomed into a respectful dojo where learning is structured, practical and enjoyable.
Training is progressive and supportive, with every student encouraged to develop at their own pace and to understand not only how techniques are performed, but why they work.
Who Can Train
Satorikan welcomes teenagers aged 14 and over and adults of all experience levels. No previous martial arts experience is required.
Whether you’re taking your first steps in martial arts or returning after many years away, instruction is adapted to your individual experience, ability and goals. You’ll be encouraged to progress at a pace that is appropriate for you.
Your First Lesson
You’re welcome to watch a class before deciding whether Satorikan is right for you, but the best way to discover what we do is to experience it for yourself.
When you arrive, we’ll introduce ourselves, ask about any previous martial arts experience and discuss any injuries, physical limitations or other factors that may affect your training. This helps us adapt your instruction and make your first experience as comfortable and productive as possible.
Every class includes a warm-up, practical instruction and partner training in a respectful and supportive environment. Techniques are demonstrated clearly before you practise them under guidance, allowing you to build confidence through understanding rather than repetition alone.
What You’ll Learn
| 🥋 Jūjutsu: Principles & Technique Learn the principles and techniques of jūjutsu through structured, progressive training. We place particular emphasis on understanding body mechanics, timing, balance and effective movement, rather than simply memorising techniques. Students are encouraged to understand not only how techniques are performed, but why they work. | 🛡️ Practical Self-Defence Develop awareness, judgement and practical skills that can help you respond appropriately to real-world situations. Self-defence is not simply about learning techniques. Understanding distance, positioning, balance, awareness and decision-making are all important parts of effective martial training. |
| 🤝 Safe & Structured Learning Training takes place in a respectful and supportive environment. Techniques are introduced progressively, with students practise with training partners and receiving guidance from the instructor throughout the lesson. | 📈 Personal Development Martial arts training can help develop balance, coordination, confidence, concentration and self-discipline, while providing the opportunity for continual learning and improvement. |
